Database GUI for
Administrators and Developers

SpeedJDB was developed for DBAs and database developers to present them with a uniform user interface for all common SQL databases. You can use SpeedJDB user friendly interface to connect to all of your favorite databases.

SpeedJDB uses the JDBC (Java Database Connectivity) API that makes it possible to execute SQL selects against all databases that have JDBC drivers. JDBC is the defacto standard for database connectivity and is supported by almost all databases today.

SpeedJDB allows users to

  • open as many database connections as wanted at the same time;
  • retrieve all the metadata of the databases and tables available via JDBC;
  • generate SQL statements (select, update, insert, delete) that can be edited and executed;
  • store as many SQL statements as wanted for every connection to reapply them later.
  • All the settings (Drivers, Connections and SQL statements) the user adds or changes in a session will be stored as XML and are again available at the next restart of this application.

SpeedJDB has been tested against

  • HSQLDB (Hypersonic)
  • IBM DB2
  • IBM Cloudscape
  • MS SQL Server
  • MySQL
  • Oracle
  • Postgre SQL
  • Sun JDBC ODBC Bridge

System Requirements

SpeedJDB is a Java program that is portable across many operating systems such as Windows, Linux, AIX.

Basic Requirements

This system should be installed on a computer having a minimum of 128 MB RAM with a processor having a minimum clock rate of 1 GHz. The display should have a screen resolution of 1024x768 pixels or more.

Java Runtime Environment

To execute the program, a Java runtime environment version 1.4.x or higher must be present in your system. You can find this out by simply typing
java -version
into the command line. A typical output then should be displayed as follows:

C:\>java -version

java version "1.4.2_02"

Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.4.2_02-b03)

Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.4.2_02-b03, mixed mode)

If a version below 1.4.x is displayed or if the command is not understood by the command interpreter you can download the Java runtime environment free of charge from Sun Microsystems at
and install it.

Executing the Program

After unzipping the downloaded software, you now should be able to start the program by executing the SpeedJDB.bat (Win) / (Linux, Unix) file.

More information regarding the installation of the JDBC drivers for the different databases is available in the online documentation of the application (press F1 to view it) under First Steps.
